Real estate marketing 101: Getting your name out in front of your prospects

Standard_PostcardIf you’re just getting started in the real estate business, your top priority will likely be bringing in some new clients. After all, without clients, you can’t make money, and you can’t build a business. The bad news is that getting clients involves putting in a lot of work, and a lot of face time with your network. The good news is, if you use these simple strategies, you’re certain to find success.

Go door to door

Real estate door hangers are a great way to really get to know a neighborhood. Whether you’re a new agent with some time on your hands, establishing yourself in a new area, or looking to go “above and beyond” in a desirable location, nothing beats knocking on a few doors and introducing yourself.

Consider your community

Where are people getting together and getting their information? Real estate is local, and if you want to get off to a good start, you should be local, too. Tack up business cards in the local coffee shops, leave brochures in the local barber shop, advertise in the local paper. Let people know you’re here to help in their neighborhood.

Get out and network

Once you’re an established agent, your networking efforts will likely be focused on nurturing relationships and creating a “deep” well of connections from one or two groups who refer you often. But at the start of your career, you need to cast a wide net. Visit as many different groups as you can, and make it your mission to meet at least ten new people every week. Don’t forget to bring plenty of business cards, and wear your own real estate name badge. Just because you’re a new agent doesn’t mean you can’t look like a seasoned professional.

Set goals and stick to them

Putting yourself out there can be a challenge, especially when you’re new and it takes time to see the rewards from your efforts. So when it comes to marketing your new business, you can’t just work on it when you feel up to it. Make it easy to track how much you’re getting done by giving yourself a visual clue, like setting out a stack of 100 of your real estate business cards with the goal of handing them all out by the end of the week. Set yourself a series of small goals, and celebrate as you accomplish them.
